As mentioned in an earlier post, I decided to draw three large castle drawings for my "Chateaux de la Romandie" project. I have a tough decision to make for the third drawing, so I thought I would ask anyone following this project to give some feedback.

You can have a look at this site and let me know what you think would  be a good choice. To leave a comment just click on the comment iconcomment below this post and use one of your existing profiles (facebook, twitter, disqus, OpenID) or as a guest. Thanks in advance for your feedback.

In the meantime, I’m going to get started on my first smaller drawing of either Grandson or Morges.

Photo of Vufflens drawing This is the second drawing for my Chateaux de Romandie series.

You can follow the WIP and read a detailed explanation of how the clouds were drawn and why I made certain choices in how they were rendered.

The emphasis of this drawing is the contrasts. From left to right the tones go from dark black to white. This represents the changes that the castle and Switzerland have gone through over time. I intentionally left the bottom right hand corner with an unfinished look to represent the future.

I'll be updating the WIP with more detailed information on my thoughts as I created this project.

Thanks for following.

To mark the occasion the organizing committee will organize an exposition on the theme of "Ecublens as seen by the Artists"

Although I will be creating several drawings of Ecublens over the next year, I am confident that I will be exposing at least one drawing 70cm x 50 cm for this exposition.

These are my current thoughts for the subjects :

  • Urbanism around our daily life. Artistic view of a tram stop.
  • View of the interior or the Eglise du Motty focusing on the organ.
  • Landscape of the river la Venoge.
  • Collage of the remaining parcels of grape vines.

I will start the process soon and you will be able to follow my work in the form of a WIP.

To get motivated it is sometimes fun just to take a subject and sketch it. This is a sketch I did one morning to get me started for the day. Sketching is fun, fast and many times gives a better result than I anticipated.Sketch of a tree on a hill in Greece

Drawing the Castle

KONICA MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERAThe steeple of the main tower is covered in copper and the roof with clay shingles. The copper of the steeple has darkened to almost black where as the shingles are a mix of 4 light tones as can been seen in this color photo. The photograph was taken from the other side of the castle so you do not see the extended roof to the left as in my drawing.

You can follow the WIP and read a detailed explanation of how the clouds will be drawn and why I made certain choices in how they will be rendered.
